Last week, Children Desiring God released the revised version of How Majestic Is Your Name! This 40-week curriculum teaches 5th grade students about the name and character of God. One of the main elements of our curriculum revision is a complete redesign of the Visuals Packet. Teachers use the visuals in this resource during the lesson to capture students’ attention, visualize Bible stories, and emphasize key points of the lesson.

The vibrant, full-color visuals include a variety of original Bible story images, names of God signs, photographs and illustrations. Children Desiring God is excited to announce the launch of the Growing in Faith Together App for iPhone, iPad and iPad Mini. The partnership between churches and parents is one of the key elements of a purposeful children’s ministry. Each of our revised, elementary Sunday School curricula feature Growing in Faith Together: Parent and Child Resource Pages (GIFT Pages) to help parents interact with their children about spiritual truths taught in Sunday School. These GIFT Pages provide parents a summary of what children are taught in class, discussion questions to help lead children to a heart response and an activity suggestion to reinforce the lesson themes or memory verse. As you diligently interact with your child about these truths in daily life, you may see your child grow in spiritual understanding and faith.

In the past, GIFT Pages (or take-home pages) were only available in the Classroom Kit to print for or email to parents. Now, with the revised curriculum project, GIFT Pages are also available in a bound booklet and the brand new GIFT App!

The GIFT App is a great tool for weekly discussions at home or on the go and keeping your children caught up if they are sick or traveling and miss Sunday School. GIFT Pages can also be used as a discipleship or devotional tool for parents even if their children are not currently studying a Children Desiring God curriculum.

Now Available: God’s Wisdom + Giveaway

God's Wisdom Cover_blogEvery day children are confronted with the call of wisdom and the call of foolishness. Which call will they answer?

God’s Wisdom, a newly released book by Sally Michael, uses the words of Proverbs to explore these two paths. As parents guide their children through this book, they will discover the joys of wisdom and discern the destruction of foolishness.

Each person starts out on the path of foolishness because we are born with foolishness in our hearts. Only God can incline a child’s heart toward the path of wisdom—and he can use your example and diligent instruction to do it.

Sally Michael seamlessly weaves New Testament and Old Testament stories together to teach biblical wisdom in a way that is clear, fun, and engaging for children. Her compelling word pictures and analogies make difficult concepts easier to grasp.
—Marty Machowski, Pastor, Author of Long Story Short and The Gospel Story Bible

Once again, Sally Michael has used her fervent love for Christ and her keen understanding of the Scriptures to help parents and children. . . . I’m very excited to put this book into the hands of parents.
—Deepak Reju, Associate Pastor, Capitol Hill Baptist Church, Washington, D.C.

God’s Wisdom is a full-color, illustrated book that includes 26 chapters with application questions and activity suggestions. The stories are written to elementary aged children. This is the fourth book in the Making Him Known series, which also includes God’s Names, God’s Promises, and God’s Wisdom.

To learn more about God’s Wisdom, read the first chapter or take a look at the table of contents. If you want to help children find the path of wisdom, order a copy now.

Being Good is Not Good Enough

JWS_Hearts_Blog

If you did not heard our exciting news last week, we have officially released the revised version of Jesus, What a Savior!

Jesus What a Savior! is a 40 week Sunday school curriculum designed to teacher Kindergartners about Redemption. In the curriculum, author Jill Nelson shares why she wrote the curriculum.

A few years ago, I asked a class of first grade children, “How does a person get saved from their sin?” Many eager hands went up. The responses of these eager children? “By obeying God,” “By being kind to people,” “By being real good.” Not one child made reference to Jesus’ death on the cross for sinners. It was not that these children did not know about the cross and its message, but it was not on the front burner of their hearts and minds. And so, the curriculum, Jesus, What a Savior! was born.

In Jesus, What a Savior!, children are presented with these main themes:

  • The incomparable greatness and worth of God, who is to be desired and treasured above all things (represented by a silver heart).
  • The desperate condition of sinners who have fallen short of treasuring the glory of God and are totally helpless to save themselves (represented by a darkened heart).
  • The all-sufficient work of Jesus on the cross to save sinners who put their trust in Him (represented by a red heart).

This is the glorious Gospel of Jesus! Salvation from sin cannot be found in any other person or place. Obeying God will not save us from our sin. Being kind will not save us from our sin. Being good will not save us from our sin.  Only Jesus is able to save us from our sins.

Growing in Faith Together: Parent and Child Resource Pages

GIFT thumb

Parents have the unique responsibility and awesome privilege of shepherding their children spiritually. We want to help churches equip parents to bring truth to bear on the daily life experiences they share
as a family. It is in these daily experiences that the Word can be tried
and found true.

To that end, we include Growing in Faith Together (GIFT): Parent and Child Resource Pages with all our curriculum, to help parents in this important calling. GIFT pages have been written to help parents interact with their children about what they are learning in class. These pages help parents discuss truths that their child is learning in class and help the child apply these truths in daily life, in the hope that their son or daughter will grow in spiritual understanding and in faith.

Some of the benefits of the newly-revised GIFT pages are:

  • They are now available in a convenient spiral-bound version, which can be provided to parents at the beginning of the year. This saves administrative time for church staff and/or teachers.
  • Stories of God’s providence provided for each lesson can be read aloud and discussed as a family. These can serve as a supplement to your family’s regular devotion times.
  • As You Walk by the Way exercises are designed to prompt deep discussions, encouraging parents and their children to engage in spiritual conversations as a part of normal everyday life.

Spiral-bound GIFT pages can be ordered in sets of 10. Note: These pages are also available on the the DVD that is included in the Classroom Kit and can be e-mailed to parents or printed and distributed each week.

Free Printables: “My Purpose Will Stand” Visuals

One of the things that we are really excited about in the release of our revised curriculum is the updated visuals and graphics. As we mentioned in the FAQs about the revised curriculum:

When our curriculum was first being developed in 1998, it was written for use in one church, formatting was done in Word (PDF files were relatively unknown), clip art was cutting edge, electronic display meant overhead projectors and this website did not exist. Since then, both technology and the needs of the churches using our curriculum have changed significantly. What has not changed is our vision to teach God-centered Bible truth to children of all ages.

We are so glad that the curriculum visuals are moving into the 21st century, with graphics and visuals that can hold their own in a digital age. These free printables from the newly-revised My Purpose Will Stand (6th Grade) will give you a taste of the amazing quality of the illustrations and artwork. Use them as your desktop wallpaper, pin them, or share them to inspire yourself and others!

Lesson 3: God’s Sustaining Providence
God is able to sustain the universe because He is unlimited. Placed against the backdrop of this spectacular lightning photography, students are reminded of God’s power both visually and through the text.

Lesson 7: All God’s Purposes Are Right
Students learn that God rules with perfect justice and righteousness. We can trust God to rule rightly because He is righteous in all He thinks and does.

Lesson 28: God’s Providence Over Man’s Way
Original illustrations by Fred Apps are absolutely stunning as they capture the essence of the biblical histories they recreate. You can see God’s gift to him, and now to us, in this illustration of Rebekah watering the camels as God providentially revealed Isaac’s wife in response to the prayer of Abraham’s servant.

Lesson 33: God’s Providence Over Prayer
This is the type of clean, fresh, modern graphics that are used in many of the teaching visuals. Students write this quote in their notebooks as they learn that God ordains prayer as a means to fulfill His purposes.

We now have a lot of helpful information about the revised curriculum on our website, including:

  • an Overview (check out the “Bible Skill Objectives” Chart)
  • a product guide (check out the Electronic Classroom Kit)
