#GivingTuesday | Together in Vision, Partners on Mission

Children Desiring God Blog // Giving Tuesday

Dear Children Desiring God Customers,

It is such a privilege to labor with you in a common vision, a vision we cannot fully accomplish on our own. Only God can bring about this vision for the next generations because only God can reach the heart.

Our vision is that the next generations know, honor, and treasure God, setting their hope in Christ alone, so that they will live as faithful disciples for the glory of God.

Honestly, this is what I love most about Children Desiring God…being dependent on God to accomplish this vision. No one is more capable than God to bring about His purposes.

We are not, however, on the sidelines watching. We are in the game. God has called us to a particular mission…this is what we are joyfully giving ourselves to.

Our mission is to nurture the faith of the next generations by equipping the church and home with resources and training that instruct the mind, engage the heart, and influence the will through proclaiming the whole counsel of God.

Today is Giving Tuesday. You can help to expand our reach to more children and youth of the next generations. Visit us at to make a donation and learn more about:

Financial Assistance

Children Desiring God Blog // Giving TuesdayWe have committed to doing all we can to keep cost from preventing a church or individual from accessing and using to our resources.

This year alone we’ve assisted 87 ministries,
Reaching 8,276 children and youth (actually more than that, but we just started keeping track of this number in May 2017),
Who live in 25 different countries,
With more than $31,000 in resources donated so far in 2017.

Your donation will help underwrite the ongoing cost of these ministry initiatives.

Thank you for considering this request, and for your prayers that the next generations will “set their hope in God” (Psalm 78:7).

Happy Thanksgiving!

Happy Thanksgiving

This Thanksgiving, our hearts are overflowing with thankfulness to the Lord for so many blessings, both small and large. We are thankful for family, friends and home, but most importantly for the truth found in the Gospel.

We are also so thankful for each and every one of you, our partners in ministry. Thank you for joining us in the mission to spread a passion for the supremacy of God in all things so that the next generation may know and cherish Jesus Christ as the only One who saves and satisfies the desires of the heart. Thank you for joining us in prayer that parents and churches will continue to partner together to instruct the mind, engage the heart and nurture the faith of our children so that millions in every generation will set their hope in God.

Happy Thanksgiving from the Children Desiring God Team!

New Passion-Filled Ways to Reach the Next Generation

Since the late 1990s, you—our customers and partners—have encouraged us with your passion to reach the next generation. When we interact with you, we hear your love for God overflow and know that you are as passionate as we are for the next generation to know, honor and treasure God and His Son Jesus Christ. It is our joy to serve you by encouraging you to be vision-oriented and equipping you with God-centered, Bible-saturated, Christ-exalting resources.

We are really excited for the start of 2017 as we not only mark a new year but also new ways and strategies for us to fulfill our 20-year-old mission for the next generation. (more…)

Merry Christmas!

Merry Christmas

May your and you family cherish time together today to celebrate the birth of Jesus, the Savior of the world, the King of Kings.

O holy night! The stars are brightly shining;
It is the night of the dear Savior’s birth.
Long lay the world in sin and error pining;
Till He appeared and the soul felt its worth.
A thrill of hope, the weary world rejoices;
For yonder breaks, a new and glorious morn.

Summer Through Customer Service Eyes

Summer Through Customer Service Eyes

Our customer service team delights in partnering with our customers in ministry. We (Holly Urbanski, Suzy Plocher, and Lori Myers) all agree that we have the best customers in the world. As we reflect on the last few months, we are thanking the Lord for a sweet partnership between Children Desiring God and the churches and individuals with whom we interact. We can honestly say that our customers are by far the nicest, most understanding, and most patient we’ve ever encountered. And this is saying a lot, especially from Lori who has worked in several other customer service positions at various kinds of companies. We love coming to work and anticipating who God will have us talk with and how we can help them.

It is a delight to hear what God is doing in various ministries throughout the U.S. and around the world. How enjoyable it has been to talk with people from so many places, and to interact via email with people in Japan, Australia, Romania, Scotland, Burundi, Bolivia, and other countries. We have enjoyed sharing helpful suggestions on how to use the curriculum and talking with customers about what is best to order for their size church and combinations of age groups or grades. We are glad to be able to help them brainstorm solutions depending on various needs that arise. Recently we were delighted to be able to assist some customers who lost curriculum materials in the terrible flooding in the southern United States and areas effected by Hurricane Matthew. We feel strongly that part of our ministry at Children Desiring God is praying for those using the materials.

It is a privilege and an honor to serve the Lord by partnering with and assisting His church worldwide with the building up of the body through Fighter Verses and teaching the next generation to set their hope in God through curriculum or family devotionals. The sweetest part has been praying with and for the needs of our customers/partners in ministry. May God grant grace for us all as we work together for His glory and the growth of His children.

How Can We Help You?

We are soon to enter one of the busiest seasons at CDG—summer. It’s the time when churches and parents are gearing up for the fall, which often means curriculum decisions. This brings to mind at least three things I really love about our “customer service” staff.

  • They fully embrace our vision and mission, and our curriculum philosophy and distinctions. So, when they answer your questions, it comes from a genuine longing to see Christ exalted and treasured in churches and homes.
  • They have a vast knowledge of our resources, and they often have experience with those resources in the classroom setting.
  • They have servant hearts that love to serve churches, parents, missionaries, and others in a myriad of ways that go beyond simply providing information about our resources.

Who are these ladies you will hear at the other end of the phone?

  • was one of the pilot teachers of the CDG Preschool curricula
  • taught and/or was a team leader in elementary Sunday school classes using CDG curriculum
  • has filled in as a small group leader and worship leader as needed
  • “My parenting was deeply influenced by the CDG vision and curriculum. My kids grew up with the CDG curricula and, assuming I have grandchildren someday, it’s my hope that they would be able to do this also.”

  • nursery caregiver, Sunday school teacher, team leader, worship leader, and substitute while using CDG materials
  • worked as an assistant Sunday school superintendent
  • worked with all age groups from birth through high school

  • served at Bethlehem Baptist Church in Minneapolis for 10 years doing administration for Sunday school, along with the occasional role as small group leader or teacher
  • now ministers as an auntie to eight nieces and nephews

Here are a few examples of the types of issues and questions they address when a customer calls:

  • budget constraints
  • getting leadership/teachers on board with the vision
  • lack of regular volunteers
  • addressing year-round Sunday school
  • having Sunday school during church service so teachers can’t attend church
  • determining curriculum with a range of children’s ages (a frequent question)
  • understanding curriculum licensing (another frequent question)
  • implementing a church-wide Bible memory program
  • using the Fighter Verses app
  • finding solutions for internationals
  • translated materials
  • many questions about preschool materials
  • training (people want to be able to train their volunteers, but don’t know how)
  • what to order as a new customer (e.g., Classroom Kit versus Teacher’s Guide, etc.)

In response, they will take time to…

  • explain answers to any questions
  • brainstorm solutions
  • walk through how the material might work in your particular situation
  • point to other resources available, such as the blog, and free audio and video training
  • when appropriate, pray for customers carrying heavy burdens
  • offer personal encouragement when ministry is hard

If you would like to reach our customer service staff at CDG, please feel free to give us a call (1.877.400.1414), or send us an email (

Our phones are answered from 9 a.m.  to 3 p.m. (Central Time) from October through June, and from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. (Central Time) from July through September.

Welcoming David Michael!

Director's Desk

As Executive Director of Children Desiring God, I am pleased to announce that David Michael will be joining our staff in a new role as Director for Vision and Spreading. David will lead the strategic efforts to share the vision of Children Desiring God—the biblical vision for God-centered ministry to children and their parents, which is rooted in the teaching of Psalm 78:4-7:

We will not hide them from their children, but tell to the coming generation the glorious deeds of the Lord, and his might, and the wonders that he has done. He established a testimony in Jacob and appointed a law in Israel, which he commanded our fathers to teach to their children, that the next generation might know them, the children yet unborn, and arise and tell them to their children, so that they should set their hope in God and not forget the works of God, but keep his commandments.

David Michael

David will focus his efforts on sharing this vision at regional events, expanding the Children Desiring God network and supporting pastors who are implementing God-centered ministry in their local churches.

“I am excited to lead these strategic, vision-casting efforts centered on spreading a biblical vision for God-centered ministry,” David said. “My greatest hope is that the next generation will put their confidence in God.”

We believe God has provided a unique season of opportunity to advance the vision of Children Desiring God. After 27 years of pastoral ministry at Bethlehem Baptist Church, the Lord has opened a new door for David to pursue wholehearted service at Children Desiring God. In addition to his vision spreading efforts, David will continue in his role as President of Children Desiring God.

On behalf of Children Desiring God, we are thankful for God’s providential redirection of David’s ministry and we eagerly anticipate what the Lord will do through him! Please take a few moments to find out more about our new vision-casting plans and to learn how you can partner with us through your prayers.
